— Why we do not provide daily updates for .us zone?
— Country-code registars never open their zone files to the public. The only way to discover domains in country-code zones is to do a massive recursive scan of all known websites. That's what we're doing. We use a massive cluster of servers and crawl the Web, then we check and clean the resulting lists. We know of millions of CCTLD-domains in hundreds of zones (and currently know of 165,450 domains in .us zone), but we do not cover 100% of them (some of the smaller websites simply do not have any inbound links and that means that our crawlers cannot find them). Meanwhile we regularly add new domains to this list (1 time / 2 months).

The .us domain is an internet country code top level domain for the United States of America. The domain was established in 1985 and it is administered by National Telecommunications and Information Administration. A .us domain is seen as the best way to promote a us-based business. Some international companies that were to infiltrate the US market register and use .us domains in order to gain the trust of the US citizens.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is an agency of the United States Department of Commerce. It acts as an advisor to the president of the United States of America on all issues related to telecommunications policies.

There is no major restriction to registering a .us domain. Applicants who wish to register a .us domain should:

• Be citizens of the United States of America
• Be residents of the United States of America
• Be an organization or a foreign entity with a presence in the United States of America

Even though this is the country domain for the US, most people and entities chose to use the .com, .net, .org and other generic top level domains instead of .us, this is largely due to the appeal and popularity of generic domains as compared to the country code domains.

• The .us domain was created on February 15, 1985. It was the first ever country code top level domain.
• The original administrator for the domain was Jon Postel of the Information Sciences Institute (ISI) at the University of Southern California (USC).
• Oversight of the domain was transferred to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the United States Department of Commerce on October 1, 1998.
• Postel died the very same month, leaving his domain administration responsibilities with ISI.
