— Why we do not provide daily updates for .pt zone?
— Country-code registars never open their zone files to the public. The only way to discover domains in country-code zones is to do a massive recursive scan of all known websites. That's what we're doing. We use a massive cluster of servers and crawl the Web, then we check and clean the resulting lists. We know of millions of CCTLD-domains in hundreds of zones (and currently know of 122,555 domains in .pt zone), but we do not cover 100% of them (some of the smaller websites simply do not have any inbound links and that means that our crawlers cannot find them). Meanwhile we regularly add new domains to this list (1 time / 2 months).

The .pt domain is the Internet country code top level domain for Portugal. It is actually one of the most popular domains in Portugal and companies linked to Portugal often register a .pt domain to reach out and appeal more to the Portugal community. The domain is managed by Associação DNS.PT.

There are no major restrictions when it comes to registering a .pt domain. Most restrictions come into effect depending on the second level domain being registered. For example:

• The .com.pt second level domain name has no restrictions and registration can be done online.
• The .edu.pt second level domain name is restricted for use by the education sector
• The .gov.pt second level domain name is restricted for use by the Government of Portugal
• The .int.pt second level domain name is restricted for use international organizations or diplomatic missions in Portugal
• The .net.pt second level domain name is restricted for use telecommunications providers
• The .nome.pt second level domain name is restricted for use individuals
• The .org.pt second level domain name is restricted for use Non-profit organizations
• The .publ.pt second level domain name is restricted for use publications

Before, registration of .pt domains was restricted to entities in Portugal. This changed on May 1, 2012 and registration directly at second level became public without restrictions. In July 1, 2005, it became possible to register domain names with diacritics like à, á, â, ã, ç, é, ê, í, ó, ô, õ, ú that are used in Portuguese words. Most companies in Portugal use the .pt domain because it not very common among scammers and it is less likely to be viewed as spam by users.
