— Why we do not provide daily updates for .au zone?
— Country-code registars never open their zone files to the public. The only way to discover domains in country-code zones is to do a massive recursive scan of all known websites. That's what we're doing. We use a massive cluster of servers and crawl the Web, then we check and clean the resulting lists. We know of millions of CCTLD-domains in hundreds of zones (and currently know of 779,394 domains in .au zone), but we do not cover 100% of them (some of the smaller websites simply do not have any inbound links and that means that our crawlers cannot find them). Meanwhile we regularly add new domains to this list (1 time / 2 months).

The .AU domain was created on the 5th of March 1986 to become the country code top level for Australia. The domain is managed and administered by Domain Administration together with AusRegistry. Domain Administration focuses on the domain name policy while AusRegistry focuses on the registry. The .au domain has shown to be very beneficial for entities and companies that want to reach out to an Australian audience. It makes their websites more accessible to the residents of Australia.

Initially, the .AU applicant was Kevin Robert Elz of Melbourne University. It wasn’t until the 1990s that the independent body .au Domain Administration was created to take over the processes of the domain.

Registration of a .au domain is open to all companies and entities that are registered to operate or do business in Australia. This means that in order to register a .au domain, one must have an Australian Business Number. Registration is conducted on a first come first serve basis and a domain can be registered via a certified registrar for a period of up to 2 years.
